How to practice
Your child stands with the Bible at their side, spine down. Read the call aloud, say “Start” and tap the timer. For a book or key passage they find it, put an index finger on it and step forward before Time. For quotation and completion calls the Bible stays closed. Then show the answer and check.
Questions parents ask
How do you practice Bible drill at home?
Have your child stand with the Bible at their side. Read the call, say Start, and let the countdown run. They find the book or passage, put a finger on it and step forward, or step forward if they can say the verse. Then check the answer and go again.
How fast should a child find a book of the Bible?
Children's drills allow 10 seconds to find the book and step forward. Youth and high school drills in Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi allow 8. Start with the timer off or longer if your child is new, and work down.
What does my child say for a book call?
The book before, the book called, and the book after. For Leviticus: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers. The practice screen shows that answer after the countdown.
Is a sword drill the same as Bible drill?
It is the same idea under another name, used in some churches and Sunday schools: find the book or verse in the Bible as fast as you can. Book and Scripture searching practice here works for a sword drill too.
Where do the verses come from?
From your child's verse card. Type the references once (and, for completion practice, the underlined words). They stay on this device. No Bible text is stored on this site.
Leaders: the drill kit writes the church drill, runs the caller's timer and tallies the judges. Bible Drill is a program of Southern Baptist state conventions; this free tool is independent.
